We're just getting started.

The Farmers Market Project

Since January of 2009, we've been working hard on launching our first main project. Each Saturday since our local farmers market opened up back in May, we've had a booth at the Clintonville Farmer's Market. Over the past several months, we have had an opporutnity to talk with people in our community about food and social justice. The Farmer's Market Project promotes the sharing of food. We've encouraged our farmers to set aside a portion of their harvest for Justice Gardens and then we make sure that the food gets into hands that need it.

We have been overwhlemed at times with how much food has been available. Thousands of pounds of fresh produce and hundreds of gallons of the best milk in the Midwest have made it to the plates and cups of people in Columbus, OH who generally don't have the opportunity to have either.  Our goal for the Farmers Market Project over the next 5 years is to have the sames presence at over 500 farmer's markets in the country. We're currently working on developing some infrastructure and "tool kits" to make that possible.

The Farmer's Market Project hopes to partner with local market managers in raising awareness of the issue of food inequality and help cultivate relationships with farmers who have the expertise in food production. We believe that the majority of food in this country can once again come from local farms---we're just trying to be there to make sure that when that day arrives, those who currently are most effected by a broken food system, get to reap the benefits as well.
